James Dondero has announced a $1 million challenge grant. The money raised will be channeled towards helping The Family Place, an NGO supporting family violence victims, to reach its target of raising $16.8 million for its Legacy Campaign.
The challenge will see Highland Capital Management, LP, donate $100,000 to the campaign for every $200,000 raised by other parties and the public. Dondero hopes that this strategy will help the organization to raise the remaining $2.8 million for the establishment of Ann Moody Place. The Dallas-based facility will serve over 2,000 victims yearly.
Highland Dallas Foundation Inc. will administer the money raised from the challenge grant. The company is the philanthropic arm of Highland Capital Management. Over the past few years, it has been involved in charitable works. The foundation is professionally managed. This way, James Dondero’s promise to The Family Place will be realized. The challenge will run until April 4, 2017. This information was originally reported on PRNewswire.
Speaking during the luncheon, Dondero said that the challenge was his response to the call of action made by Dallas Police Chief, David Brown, and Dallas Mayor, Mike Rawling. They had invited the Dallas community to step him and help solve the family violence menace. He believes that the remaining $2.8 million can be raised if the Dallas community comes together. James appealed to the civic community to contribute towards the noble initiatives.
